Niagara Falls

By Carol Fleg

One of the greatest wonders of the world is an hour away from Hamilton by car. I live in Hamilton.
This magnificent wonder is Niagara Falls. It is one of the 7 wonders but I’m very sure there are more.
My parents would take my brother, sisters, and I, to Niagara Falls when I was young. We would spend the day and have a picnic.
Many times I’ve wondered where all that water came from, it never ends.
In the early 1920’s there was a shortage of water at the falls. It was during the winter and very cold. The lack of water somehow caused an ice bridge to form at the base of the falls. At first people enjoyed walking over this natural walkway, kids threw snowballs. The fun ended when it was declared unsafe.
Now in 2017 water continues to flow over the Canadian and American side.
For generations this constant supply has tumbled down, sometimes taking rocks with it.
The Maid of the Mist tour boat has taken thousands of tourists to the bottom of this beautiful sight. When I was a teenager a bunch of us took this ride and to this day I never tire of seeing it.
My son was born on December, 12, 1964. My husband and I and a couple we knew took our son when he was six weeks old, he wasn’t at all interested.
Niagara Falls attracts millions every year. Hopefully it will be there for many more generations to enjoy.
